GISA108 Designing Social Inquiry (사회과학방법론)
This course offers an overview of some of the key epistemological and methodological issues facing researchers in Social Science in general and International Relations in specific. The objective of the course is to provide the students a sound foundation for pursuing the study of International Relations as an empirical enterprise.
GISF002 Statistics for Business and Economics (연구방법론)
The purpose of this course is to provide basic tools to understand and analyze qualitative and quantitative data, thus helping students acquire fundamental and important knowledge of statistics for their research and business. This course introduces basic concepts and theories of statistics, and applies those statistics to actual business and economics data. Specifically, the course covers various topics including organizing variables, numerical descriptive measures, probability distributions, confidence interval estimation, hypothesis testing, and regression analysis.
GISD101 East-Asian Int’l Relations (동아시아국제관계)
This course is designed to provide an overview of competition, conflict, and cooperation among East Asian countries, focusing mainly on Northeast Asia. While investigating major issues of East Asian region, such as Sino-U.S. strategic competition, U.S.-led hub-and-spoke alliance system, North Korea’s nuclear armament, Sino-Japanese-South Korean regional rivalry, and Taiwan Strait security, students will be able to deepen their understanding in East Asian international relations.
GISD102 East Asian Economy (동아시아경제론)
This course first covers the success story of East Asian Economies (so-called East Asian Miracle), focusing on how it could achieve such success. Then, their failure story, namely the crisis of many regional economies in late 1990s will be covered, focusing on why it occurred and how they recovered from it. Then, it will cover the post-crisis East Asian Economies, focusing how they have changed from the pre-crisis period.
GISD104 Introduction to Contemporary Korea (현대한국학총론)
This course is designed to provide basic understanding of contemporary Korea. It will cover Korea’s modern history, focusing on its evolution after the liberation from the Japanese colonial rule. Then it will look over the political, economic, social, and international issues of the contemporary Korea, focusing on their key characteristics.
GISD105 Korean Society and Culture (한국사회와 문화)
This course is designed to provide a sound understanding of Korean society and culture. The goal is not simple transmission of information on Korea but provision of an array of information as well as several perspectives on Korea that helps students to develop their own perspectives.
GISD106 Introduction to Contemporary China (현대중국학총론)
This course is designed to provide basic understanding of contemporary China, namely People's Republic of China. It will cover a brief history of modern China, and then look over the political, economic, social, and international issues of contemporary (mainland) China, focusing on their key characteristics.
GISD107 Introduction to Contemporary Japan (현대일본학총론)
This course is designed to provide basic understanding of contemporary Japan. It will cover Japan’s modern history after Meiji Restoration, focusing on its evolution after the Second World War. Then it will look over the political, economic, socio-cultural, and international issues of the contemporary Japan, focusing on their key characteristics.
GISD108 Politics in East Asia (동아시아의 정치)
This course offers a broad understanding of politics in East Asia by exploring common political themes, patterns, and connections among countries within the region. It also examines the principal political features and processes of individual countries, such as state institutions, political parties, and state-society relations, through the overarching themes of development, democracy, and nationalism.
