GISA108 Designing Social Inquiry (사회과학방법론)
This course offers an overview of some of the key epistemological and methodological issues facing researchers in Social Science in general and International Relations in specific. The objective of the course is to provide the students a sound foundation for pursuing the study of International Relations as an empirical enterprise.
GISA101 Theories of International Relations (국제관계이론)
This is an advance course designed to familiarize students with significant theories of international relations with a special focus their key concepts, foundational assumptions, and essential arguments. By examining major IR theories and central debates among IR scholars, this course helps students equipped with strong working knowledge of major IR theories that can be employed in analyzing and explaining contemporary international politics.
GISA102 International Political Economy (국제정치경제론)
This course is an advanced graduate seminar on international political economy. It investigates major theories of international political economy, and analyzes contemporary issues of global economic relations. Focusing on international trade, investment, knowledge, information, monetary, and financial relations, this course covers specialized topics such as trade wars, currency crises, environmental issues, international organizations, North-South conflict and cooperation, and exchange-rate regimes.
GISA104 International Security & Peace (국제안보와 평화)
This course is designed to acquaint students with the fundamentals of international security and strategy. One of the objectives is to sensitize students to the complexity of the policy and strategy making process and to enhance the ability to think strategically in the context of international and domestic constraints. A particular emphasis will be placed on the political use of military power, i.e., use of force as an extension of statecraft.
GISA105 International Organizations (국제기구론)
This course aims to expose students to seminal research on the role of international organizations in world politics. In specific, this course provides graduate students with opportunities and trainings for 1) basic theoretical concepts and theoretical orientations essential in understanding the role and power of international organizations in global affairs; 2) skills to analyze main issues in global politics in which international organizations are deeply involved; 3) an ability to evaluate rival explanations for the contribution (or lack thereof ) of the international organizations to settlements of major disputes and challenges.
GISA106 Contemporary World Politics (국제정세분석)
The primary objective of this colloquium is to familiarize students with current world affairs and to help them to conduct a debate on some of the more salient contemporary international issues that are taxing the minds of practitioners and scholars alike. This course helps equip students with analytic skills necessary to understand world affairs properly.
GISA107 Theories of National Intelligence (국가정보학개론)
This course is designed to exposes students to seminal research on the theories and practices of national intelligence in international politics. The acquisition of information, procured covertly or overtly, has been the subject matter of intrigue and calculation that goes back to recorded human history. This course focuses on the contemporary decision-making process, with a particular emphasis on American and British intelligence.
GISD101 East-Asian International Relations (동아시아국제관제)
This course is designed to provide an overview of competition, conflict, and cooperation among East Asian countries, focusing mainly on Northeast Asia. While investigating major issues of East Asian region, such as Sino-U.S. strategic competition, U.S.-led hub-and-spoke alliance system, North Korea’s nuclear armament, Sino-Japanese-South Korean regional rivalry, and Taiwan Strait security, students will be able to deepen their understanding in East Asian international relations.
