This course is designed to introduce empirical methods in asset pricing using financial data and computer programing. The course puts emphasis on empirically testing the prevailing asset pricing models in academia and industry and actually predicting the expected return of stocks, rather than discussing their theoretical foundations. The topics covered in this course include portfolio theory, capital asset pricing model, factor models, market anomalies, and portfolio evaluation. Popular statistical packages such as Python and STATA are used for empirical tests.

This course introduces the development of the Korean financial system during the last half century and discusses the current system and institutions. The course also studies the operations of each segment of financial sector including commercial banks, investment and trust businesses, insurance, merchant banks, securities companies, and so on. Further, it discusses the current problems and challenges facing the Korean financial system.

This course offers a basic understanding on the operation and behavior of financial markets in the U.S. including money, banking, and capital markets. The course also discusses the function of financial intermediaries such as depository institutions, contractual saving institutions, as well as financial markets instruments including money market and capital market instruments and securities.

This course introduces Asia-Pacific financial markets in the context of global financial markets including Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, Korea, Taiwan, and Thailand. This course studies the operation and structure of money markets, securities exchanges, foreign currency markets, and derivative markets in each country.
GISC207 Empirical Corporate Finance (기업재무실증연구)
This course is designed to provide students with knowledge necessary for empirical research in corporate finance. Students will learn both relevant knowledge on various topics in corporate finance and methodologies commonly used in the empirical research. The topics to be covered in this course include agency problem, corporate governance, capital structure, investment policy, payout policy, and banking.
GISC208 Principles of Insurance and Risk (보험론)
This course introduces different types of risks faced by individuals and businesses along with possible alternative methods of treating such risks. One of the methods is an insurance in which an individual or entity receives financial protection or reimbursement against losses from an insurance company. Students will have a clear understanding of risk and the risk management process, investigate the insurance industry from both an economic and regulatory perspective, and look over real contracts of insurance.
GISC209 Alternative Investments (대체투자)
The objective of this course is to help students understand the growing area of alternative investments. This course provides students a basic and advanced knowledge on alternative investments such as hedge funds and private equity funds. Students will understand alternative investments by taking an investor's perspective and learn how various alternative investment funds are structured, managed, and marketed. Further, the course focuses on structured products, which are popular among institutional investors.
GISC210 Central Banking (중앙은행 정책론)
This course aims to help students understand the purpose and the functions of central banks and monetary policies. The course introduces the tools of monetary policy that central banks implement and covers issues in inflation targets. In addition, this course studies how central banks have developed over time and how central banks affect the financial system and the economy. The course further discusses what roles central banks play during the period of global financial crisis.
GISC211 Asset Management: Theory and Practice (자산운용 이론과 실제)
The purpose of this course is help students understand asset management from a theoretical and practical perspective. The course covers various topics of asset management such as the prevalent performance and risk measures, the asset allocation decision, portfolio theory, and the evaluation of portfolio performance. In particular, this course studies how to apply financial theories to the actual portfolio management.
GISC212 Fundraising in the Euro Financial Market (유로금융시장에서의 자금조달)
The objective of this course is to give students a better understanding of how banks and corporations raise money in international financial markets, with special attention to the Euro financial market, via debt instruments including global bond issue and syndicated loans. This course studies pricing strategies and how investment banks facilitate the fundraising process as underwriters. Further, the course introduces currency and interest rate hedging techniques related to debt instruments in international financial markets.
GISC213 Analysis of Fixed Income Securities (채권분석)
This course is designed to help students have a clear understanding of fixed income securities. The course introduces basic features and pricing of fixed income securities, various types of risks arising from these securities, and analytical tools to measure and evaluate the risks. This course also covers how financial institutions and firms effectively manage the risks associated with fixed income securities such as interest rate risk and default risk.
GISC214 Risk Management (위험관리론)
The purpose of this course is to provide students an overall understanding of corporate risk management. The course covers the risks that corporations face, quantitative and qualitative frameworks and tools of analyzing and mitigating risks in corporations. More importantly, this course discusses how risk management methodologies apply to the practice of management using business cases.
GISC215 Financial Engineering (금융공학)
This course is based on a multidisciplinary study involving financial theory, the methods of engineering, the tools of mathematics, and the practice of programming. This course begins with basic concepts in investments including time value of money, bonds, and equities. Then, the course studies the risks and returns that are applied to the modern portfolio theory and the capital asset pricing model. The other main topics include a yield to maturity of a bond, a duration of a bond, and derivatives. Through this course, students will develop analytical and problem-solving skills necessary for financial engineering.

GISC219 Valuation (기업가치평가)
This course aims to help students learn firm, debt, and equity valuation tools such as the discounted cash flow, the weighted average cost of capital, the free cash flow approach, and relative valuation using market comparables. With these existing valuation techniques, this course focuses more on the practical application to valuating real firms. To practice corporate valuation and obtain insights on valuation, the course works on real business cases and discusses the relevant academic research.
