Profile

BONG Youngshik (M.A. and a Ph.D. in political science, the University of Pennsylvania) is a research fellow at Yonsei University Institute for North Korean Studies. Dr. Bong is a visiting professor at the Graduate Institute of Peace at Kyung Hee University and a lecturer at Sogang University and Yonsei University. He was an assistant professor at American University's School of International Service in Washington D.C., Freeman Assistant Professor of Korean Studies at Williams College, MA and Post-Doctoral Fellow at Wellesley College, MA. He also served as the Director of Foreign Policy and National Security Program and Senior Research Fellow at the Asan Institute for Policy Studies from 2011 to 2016. His research is focused on the interplay between nationalism and regional security including island disputes and historical reconciliation in East Asia, anti-Americanism, the U.S.-Korea Alliance, and North Korea.Dr. Bong has been interviewed and quoted widely in the broadcast media including Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Financial Times, The Washington Post, CNN, BBC, NBC, ABC, NHK World, Mainichi Shimbun, The Strait Times, Channel News Asia Singapore, Voice of America and Al Jazeera English. He was the host of Peace and Prosperity and The Roundtable, news magazine programs of the Arirang TV from 2020 to 2024.
