Xiao, Yalan - China / International Finance (Minor: International Trade)

1. Please introduce yourself (background, interests, your MBTI, and so on)

Hello, my name is Xiao Yalan from China, I am currently in my 3rd semester majoring in International Finance. I just came to Korea last September, so my Korean is not very good, now I am working hard to learn Korean. My MBTI is ENFP, so I really enjoy meeting new people and spending time with my friends and socializing! My hobby is dancing, especially K-pop and hiphop. It's something I've always loved and stuck to, and I'm really happy when I dance!

2. Can you tell us the reason why you chose to study at Sogang GSIS?

At first, I received offers from two universities. Then I collected a lot of information about the universities and their rankings on the website, and finally I chose Sogang University. Sogang University has strict academic requirements. I can learn a lot of useful knowledges here. Moreover, the location of our university is very convenient. It is in the center of the Sinchon, which allows me to have a better life experience.

3. How do you usually spend your spare time in Korea?

In my spare time, I spend time with my friends, exploring restaurants in Seoul, going to cafes, hiking, etc. As I said earlier, I love to dance, so occasionally I go to some dance studios to learn dance and also dance with my friends. And! I'm interested in Korean hip hop. I like a lot of Korean rappers, and if I have time I'll go to some of their events, like music festivals~

4. Can you recommend your favorite place/spot in Seoul?

My favorite place in Seoul is Han River Park, Yeouido Park, Banpo Park, Jamsil Park, etc. In the Summer evening, it's really nice to walk around Han River Park and watch the sunset. When the weather is nice in Spring, it is also a good choice to have a picnic with friends at Han River Park. Since I live very close to the Han River, I sometimes go running along the Han River, and it's really pleasant to watch the scenery of the Han River while running.

5. Any recommendations or know-how on life in Korea?

Learn Korean as well as you can, communicate with Koreans as much as you can, and don't be afraid to make mistakes when you do. Go out more and participate in activities where you can experience Korean culture.

6. Can you share your most memorable experience at Sogang GSIS with us?

The most memorable experience with GSIS is when I signed up and won first place in the talent show in the second semester. I am very grateful to GSIS for giving us this opportunity to show our talent and for giving me this award. In this show, I saw excellent performances from everyone in our GSIS.

7. Do you have any advice for the prospective students at Sogang GSIS?

If you want to come here, don't hesitate to come. If you have questions, feel free to contact the member of GSIS.
