How to become a member of the Student Council?
An announcement is made by the student council (SC) at the end of each semester, and a new president and a vice president are elected via majority vote submitted by GSIS students.
Regarding the election of members of SC, the GSIS Office makes a new announcement about “Application for Assistantship & SC Committee Member” on the Notice board at the last month of each semester (June and December), and students submit an application form according to their preferences. Then, applicants have an interview with the president of SC, and the president reports results to the GSIS office. After that, the final decision is made in the GSIS committee meeting.
Notes:
* Students cannot apply to be a member of the student council in the first semester.
** All members of the student council can stand for re-election each semester.

ⅠPackages

During the semester, the student council provides different types of packages, such as welcome and final term packages. The student council understands that participating in monthly activities may be difficult for some students due to their different schedules. Thus, the provision of these packages aims to enhance students' school experience, and at the same time, make the semester more comfortable and fun.
ⅠSogang T-shirt & Varsity Jacket

The student council offers customized Sogang T-shirts & Varsity jackets for GSIS students free or at a discounted price. The T-shirts offered in Spring semester are designed by students. The main purpose of these uniforms is to raise the school spirit among GSIS students, showing who we are and what we are proud of, just like our university's motto, "Be as proud of Sogang as Sogang is proud of you."
ⅠClosing Party

Closing party is a special event for the GSIS students organized as a reward for the hard work throughout the semester and for its successful completion. It is held right after the final exam period and marks the beginning of break. This activity includes a dinner, an enjoyable getaway in the city, or a combination of both.
ⅠEssentials & Refreshments
The student council offers essentials like stationery, first-aid kits, hygiene products for women, scientific calculators, and academic books, along with some board games and sports equipments, for students' comfort. Moreover, a wide range of refreshments - from tea, coffee capsules, instant coffee, snaks, and candies are available for students to enjoy as they study.
ⅠPast Activities
· Clubs

The GSIS consists of international students coming from more than 60 countries. In order to enliven students’ educational experience at Sogang GSIS, the student council has organized several clubs for dance, sports, and language activities to help students balance their social life and academics.
· MT (Membership Training)

Membership training (namely MT) is one of the most notable traditions in Korean universities. This includes student-led activities that aim to promote socialization among their peers in the same school or major at the beginning of the semester. Typically, the MT is organized by the student council for new students. The MT comprises various programs such as recreational activities, games, dinner, and drinks. The location of the membership training varies according to the activities planned, but generally takes place in the suburbs or countryside. The MT may require a small participation fee, depending on the type of activities planned.
· Contests

Contests are another type of activities organized by the GSIS student council. The student council creates a space for students to show their skills and talents outside the academic and professional realm. The nature and themes of the contests are diverse; e.g., photography, costume, and talent contests. The student council provides an incentive for students who win the contest in the form of cash or a shopping coupon.
