1. Please introduce yourself (background, interests, your MBTI, and so on)
Hello everyone~ My name is Jaierbim Nattharom, or you can call me Nook J. I’m currently a 3rd semester student majoring in International Trade,
and I’m from Bangkok, Thailand.
I got my bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Chulalongkorn
University in Thailand. Before coming to Sogang GSIS, I worked as a medical sales
representative, but then I decided to quit my job and start a new journey in
Seoul… and honestly, I’ve never regretted it!
Even though many people think my MBTI starts with ‘E,’ I’m sorry to say
that I’m actually an introvert —my MBTI is INFP.
I do enjoy talking and making new friends, but I can be a little shy at
first. So please don’t be surprised if I just smile at you and walk away
without saying anything. 😂
2. Can you tell us the reason
why you chose to study at Sogang GSIS?
When I decided to pursue my master’s degree in South Korea,
I did a lot of research, especially looking through different curriculum. At that time, I had three universities on my list, but
Sogang matched my expectations the most.
I wanted to study at a university in Seoul since it’s more convenient for international students to live in a big city. Also, Sogang has a great reputation in South Korea, so I felt confident that I would gain a lot of knowledge here. And well… here I am at Sogang GSIS. J
3. How do you usually spend
your spare time in Korea?
When I have free time, I enjoy exploring new cafés that have
good coffee and a nice vibe for chilling out — and also for studying. I mean,
if you’re in Korea, how could you not study at a café, right? Hahaha
So, if anyone has any recommendations, please let me
know or we can go together sometime~ go go~
I also love walking around Seoul without any
destination when the weather is nice. To be honest, when I was in Bangkok, I
wasn’t really the type of person who enjoyed walking — you could tell from my health
app since I only walked around 3,000–5,000 steps a day. But here, I walk about
10,000 steps almost every day, except in winter (It’s so freezing, I could die on the street if I did ㅠㅠ).
4. Can you recommend your
favorite place/spot in Seoul?
Even though it might not sound that interesting, I have to
say that Yeouido Hangang Park is always my safe place when I just want to
relax—sit alone, talk to no one, and enjoy the stunning view and fresh air,
especially during sunset. So, please don’t miss it!
5. Any recommendations or
know-how on life in Korea?
As someone who studied Korean before coming to Korea, but
once I got here, I realized that my Korean skills were basically zero lol. But
I’d say you can still survive in Korea but if you want to enjoy your life here
even more, being able to communicate in Korean at a basic everyday level is
really helpful.
Because one day you might just be out and a random ahjumma
comes up to talk to you, it’s actually really fun if you can make small talk,
and you can learn a lot about Korean culture too.
6. Can you share your most
memorable experience at Sogang GSIS with us?
Spending time with my GSIS friends is one of my most
memorable experiences at Sogang GSIS. I really love spending time with them.
Also, the major party is one of the most memorable experiences.
It’s a great opportunity to talk with other GSIS students since we may not get
many chances to interact at school—and of course, with our professors as well.
After that, we usually go to second and third rounds to keep the night going
and spend more time together, and then end up seeing each other again in
morning class. I really appreciate how you guys work hard and play hard hahaha.
7. Do you have any advice for
the prospective students at Sogang GSIS?
My advice for prospective students at Sogang GSIS is not to
worry too much—just do your best, go with the flow, and everything will be okay
in the end. Also, enjoy your life in Seoul and at Sogang GSIS as much as
possible because time flies so fast!
8. Do you have anything to
say to Sogang GSIS?
I would like to say thank you to all the professors,
administrative staff, and everyone who gave me the opportunity to pursue my
master’s degree here. The time I have spent here has been such an important
part of my life, and I have learned so much
Thank you for all the support—without it, I can’t imagine
how I would have made it through. I am sincerely and deeply grateful.
