1. Please introduce yourself (background, interests, your MBTI, and so on)
Hi everyone! I’m Mariel Prado, from Lima, Peru.
I studied International Business in Peru and earned a double degree in Marketing from the U.S.
Now I’m doing my master’s in international trade here at Sogang GSIS. I first came to Korea in
2017 for an exchange program, and that experience completely changed my perspective. I fell in
love with the culture, the people, and especially how even simple places like cafés or shops have
such a unique design and identity. I also love how marketing and fashion in Korea are full of originality
and detail; they always inspire me and spark new ideas.
As an ENFP, I’m super curious, cheerful, and I genuinely love connecting with people. I enjoy good
conversations, learning from others, and finding inspiration in everyday life.

2. Can you tell us the reason why you chose to study at Sogang GSIS?
I chose Sogang GSIS because it offers everything I wanted: a global program, excellent professors,
and an environment that feels diverse and full of opportunities to grow. During the admission process,
the GSIS office was very kind and supportive, which made me feel confident about my choice.
I also love how flexible the program is, allowing students to explore different majors and learn from many perspectives.

3. How do you usually spend your spare time in Korea?
In my free time, I love going to cafés, especially the ones where I can study, read, or just enjoy a good matcha.
I like learning how things are made, so sometimes I take short classes like barista workshops, flower arrangement,
perfume making, or baking desserts. It’s something that really relaxes me and makes me happy. I also enjoy
painting and drawing whenever I have time. Doing creative things helps me clear my mind and stay inspired.
I love going out with my friends, walking around the city, having picnics by the Han River, or finding new cozy
places to hang out. I also like riding my bike when the weather is nice. I really enjoy traveling too, especially
around Korea. Some of my favorite places are Jeju, Geoje, and Gyeongju because each one has its own charm
and culture. I also love visiting other countries in Asia like Japan, China, and Taiwan. Traveling, trying new food,
knowing cultures, animals, and my family always give me new energy and inspiration.

4. Can you recommend your favorite place/spot in Seoul?
Some of my favourite places in Seoul are Ttukseom Han River and Seoul Forest I love spending time there,
having picnics, walking around, or just watching the sunset and enjoying the view. I also really like Jongno café
area and Ikseon-dong for their mix of old and modern cafés, each with such a cozy and artistic atmosphere.

5. Any recommendations or know-how on life in Korea?
My advice for life in Korea is to stay curious and open to trying new things.
Every neighborhood has its own charm, and café culture here is amazing you can always find a nice spot
to study or relax. Learning a few Korean words really helps too; people appreciate it so much. I think
the most important thing is to find a balance between studying and enjoying life, take time to walk, explore,
and spend moments with friends. Those small things make your experience here even more meaningful.

6. Can you share your most memorable experience at Sogang GSIS with us?
One of my favourite experiences at Sogang GSIS has been being part of the Student Council.
It gave me the chance to connect with many students and professors in a very genuine way.
I also really enjoyed the major dinners each semester, having dinner with classmates and
professors in such a casual and friendly setting was something new for me. Those moments, along
with the university festivals, helped everyone bond more closely and made the GSIS community feel special.

7. Do you have any advice for the prospective students at Sogang GSIS?
My advice for new students is to be open and get involved. Don’t be shy to talk to
people everyone at GSIS is friendly and comes from different backgrounds, so you
can learn so much from each other. Try to find a good balance between studying and
enjoying life in Korea. Join events, dinners, or small gatherings; those moments
help you create real friendships and make your experience here unforgettable.
8. Do you have anything to say to Sogang GSIS?
I really want to thank everyone at Sogang GSIS the professors, the staff, and all the
people who make this place so special. These two years have been such an important
part of my life. I’ve learned so much, not only from classes but also from the people
I met and the experiences I had.
The support and kindness I received here helped me grow, gain confidence, and see
things from new perspectives. I feel so lucky to be part of this community and to have
shared so many good memories. I’ll always be thankful for everything GSIS has given
me.
