Please introduce yourself (background, interests, your MBTI, and so on)
Hello, my name is Duoduo Cheng, and I’m from China. I am currently a 4th-semester International Finance student. I got my bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a focus on Accounting, in the US. After graduation, I worked for several years and decided to continue my master studies in here. My MBTI has changed three times, so I’m not sure how reliable it is anymore, but my most recent result was ENFP-A. I enjoy watching dramas and occasionally challenging myself with new experiences.
Can you tell us the reason why you chose to study at Sogang GSIS?
At the very beginning, I was hoping to study for my master's in a new country and gain some new experiences, so the GSIS program in Korea quickly became my first choice. I applied to several GSIS programs and I chose Sogang because, throughout the application and interview process, Sogang came across as more professional and student-focused.
I love that Sogang offers a highly academic environment with small class sizes (which I prefer), and professors care everyone in the class. Additionally, Sogang has fair scholarship standards—if you study hard, you can save more money. So, I guess the key is to study hard!
How do you usually spend your spare time in Korea?
Seoul has so many beautiful coffee and dessert shops, so in my spare time, I usually explore new cafes with my friends. I also enjoy discovering new restaurants and trying different types of food. Thanks to Korea's diversity, you can find cuisine from many countries here. And of course, shopping! There are so many brands with great designs, making it hard to resist exploring the stores here.
Can you recommend your favorite place/spot in Seoul?
Since I spend most of my time in the Sinchon/Hongdae area, I’d definitely recommend it. They have everything you need around. If you like shopping, I also suggest checking out Hannam-dong or Seongsu area. For some natural views, Seoul Forest is beautiful during the blooming season, and having a picnic by the Hangang River is always a good idea.
Any recommendations or know-how on life in Korea?
As a Chinese, I often look for experiences shared on social media when I encounter problems. So if you know some Chinese try download and use “Xiaohongshu” App, and maybe it can help you explore Korea better.
Can you share your most memorable experience at Sogang GSIS with us?
The most meaningful part of my experience here has been the friendships I've made with some truly amazing people. Being a TA has also given me precious memories. I wasn’t someone who liked talking to people much before, but this role has really changed me in many ways. It pushed me out of my comfort zone and helped me become more confident in engaging with others.
