Temporary leave (휴학)

(1) When a student takes a semester off due to the illness, internship, military service or other unavoidable circumstances, he/she must submit an application for temporary leave with the signature of the program director and obtain the permission from the dean of GSIS. 


(2) For the master's program the length of a temporary leave shall not exceed 2 semesters. For the doctoral program the length of a temporary leave shall not exceed 4 semesters. For students who are on the temporary leave because of a long-term business trip abroad, a long-term employment in an overseas branch, one year can be regarded as one semester of temporary leave as per the evidence. Military service or pregnancy & childbirth endorsed by the documentary evidence shall not be included in the total times of the temporary leave. Students with a child under the age of 8 can take a temporary leave for child caring up to 2 semesters at the maximum(for female students, up to 4 semesters at the maximum).  


(3) Temporary leave shall not be allowed in the 1st semester. However, illness requiring medical treatment for more than one month, military service, or childbirth, etc. shall be exceptional as per the evidence.


(4) If a foreign student takes a semester off, D-2 Visa expires on the day that GSIS office reports to the immigration office.
